Fifteen years to the first title.

BMW went World Superbike racing in 2009 to justify building a road bike. It won its first race in 2012 and its first title in 2024, and by September 2026 it had added an endurance world championship and the fastest lap the Isle of Man has seen.

World Superbike.

  1. 2009To 2013

    Troy Corser and Rubén Xaus raced the brand-new S 1000 RR from the first round of 2009. The first win took until 13 May 2012 at Donington Park, where Marco Melandri led Leon Haslam home for a BMW one-two. BMW stepped back from a full factory effort after 2013.

  2. 2019The return

    The all-new S 1000 RR brought BMW back as a factory team, run with Shaun Muir Racing. From 2021 the M 1000 RR became the base.

  3. 2024Breakthrough

    BMW signed Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, the 2021 champion. He won 18 races, including a record 13 in a row, and took the title at Jerez on 19 October 2024, despite missing two rounds after a practice crash at Magny-Cours. It was BMW's first.

  4. 2025Again

    He did it again: 21 wins and 616 points, 13 clear of Ducati's Nicolò Bulega, settled in the last race of the season at Jerez. Along the way he matched his own 13-in-a-row record. Then he left for MotoGP.

  1. 2026The defence

    With Toprak gone, BMW signed Miguel Oliveira and Danilo Petrucci. Both missed rounds through injury, with Michael van der Mark and Hannes Soomer standing in, and Ducati's Nicolò Bulega had the title won with two rounds to spare. BMW and Petrucci have agreed to part at the end of the year. The last two rounds are at Estoril on 10 and 11 October and Jerez on 17 and 18 October.

The Mountain Course.

2014, a long wait. Michael Dunlop won the Superbike, Superstock and Senior TTs on S 1000 RRs in 2014. They were BMW's first solo TT wins since Georg Meier won the 1939 Senior, seventy-five years earlier. BMW-engined sidecars had won plenty in between.

Hickman's 2023 lap still stands after the 2024, 2025 and 2026 TTs. For comparison, the Superbike-class record is 135.970 mph, set by Michael Dunlop on a Honda in 2024.

Endurance.

  1. 2021First win

    In its first season with the M 1000 RR, the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team won the six-hour season finale at Most and finished second overall.

  2. 2022Spa

    Markus Reiterberger, Ilya Mikhalchik and Jérémy Guarnoni won the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the team's first 24-hour victory, at its home race in Belgium.

  3. 2026Champions

    Michael van der Mark, Markus Reiterberger and South Africa's Steven Odendaal won the 2026 FIM Endurance World Championship, four points clear of YART Yamaha. It is the first world title a European manufacturer has won in the series.
